GERHANA

MISSION TO SEAFARERS NAARM (MELBOURNE) | FREE

An event of myth and metaphor, Gerhana urges us to remember against the devouring forces of forgetting – a gathering of people who understand what it means to be between two worlds and who know what it means to carry more than one world inside them.

There will be music, performances, a shadow puppet workshop and of course, food.  From 2pm, Indonesian DJ’s will be bringing visibility to the often invisible architecture of ancestry and continuity through sound. Special live performances will take place in the Courtyard throughout the day, but what and when, you’ll just have to be there.

This event is free and for attendees of all ages.

MISSION TO SEAFARERS NAARM (MELBOURNE) | BUY TICKETS (18+)

Presented as part of Liquid Architecture Intersonix

In Javanese cosmology, Batara Kala is the devouring god that moves through all things, usually unseen, but always present. In Java, people respond to gerhana by making noise together: beating drums, banging pots, shouting at the sky.

In a special ticket experience within the Dome of Mission to Seafarers, Nongkrong presents three live acts that bring visibility to the invisible architecture of time, ancestry, loss, and continuity through sound. This event invites you to make collective noise, and listen to the experimental sounds of the diaspora that have been shaped by Country, relationship and movement.
